At SpHS, we believe integrity is more than just doing the right thing—it’s taking responsibility for our actions, showing dedication to excellence, and serving others with honesty and heart. This month, we are proud to recognize our Culinary Arts II students for demonstrating Integrity as part of our R.I.S.E. core values.
Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, and staying true to your values
These students went above and beyond by arriving early to prepare breakfast and lunch for a recent DV visit. They took full responsibility for their work, ensuring each meal was served with care and excellence. Without expectation of recognition, they dedicated themselves to serving others—a true testament to their strong moral character.
Their actions embody what it means to be a Sentinel, and we are incredibly proud of their leadership and integrity.
Great job, Culinary Arts II! Keep rising to excellence!

Sentinel Nation,
As you know, Spring is officially here (someone please notify the weather), and you know what that means…spring cleaning! We have been working hard trying to tidy up our school, as many nooks and crannies have not had the necessary attention. So now, we need your help.
PE Locker Cleaning: Students, you should have received an email about this on March 18th but consider this your friendly reminder: please clear out your P.E. lockers so we can clean inside of them! Anything left behind will be placed in the lost and found, so if you want to keep that favorite hoodie, extra pair of sneakers, or random snack wrappers, take it all home ASAP. We have found in the past when we left things untidy, things begin to grow (yes food is being left in these places), and it becomes unsafe and unsanitary.
Why the big push? Well, let’s just say the locker room hasn’t had a deep clean in a while, and it’s overdue. After the clean-out, students who need to store items in their lockers need to get a lock from Mr. Cassel. We want to make sure your belongings stay safe and secure (no more missing items)! And a quick PSA: if you’re sharing your locker combo or leaving your lock open… that kind of defeats the purpose of having a lock! Keep your items safe by keeping them locked up!
Quarter 3 is Wrapping Up - Check Your Grades: The end of Quarter 3 is March 26th (that’s right around the corner)! Now’s the time to double-check your grades, turn in any missing assignments, and talk to your teachers. Your teachers should be the first people you should go to for help, and if you need extra time, make sure you are being requested for seminar sessions. We have two sessions next week (24 & 26). Let’s finish the quarter strong, Sentinels!
[Rescheduled] Quarter 3 Connectedness Activity: Mark your calendars! Our amazing Student Council (StuCo) is hosting our Quarter 3 Connectedness Activity on March 26th at 5 p.m. It’s going to be a great way to get involved, connect with friends, and have some fun before we dive into the final stretch of the year. More details and the flyer can be found [here]! Please stay tuned for more information.
Month of the Military Child: April is the Month of Military Child, and we have many events and activities planned. Stay tuned for the calendar. We will send it in a stand-alone message, but for now please plan to attend our “Clap In” on April 9th at 7:40 AM and our Family Luncheon on April 28th at 12:35 PM.
Looking ahead, Thursday, March 27, is a NO SCHOOL Day for students. While you’re sleeping in or getting a head start on your relaxation, our teachers will be busy finalizing quarter grades. Then, on Friday, March 28, Spring Break officially begins! Cue the sunshine, naps, and endless debates over whether it’s too early for ice cream (just so you know…it’s never too early). We’ll see you back on Monday, April 7, which will be an Orange (A) Day—Blocks 1, 2, 3, and 4. Hopefully well-rested, recharged, and ready to tackle Quarter 4!
Over break, the office will have modified hours, so just ring the bell or shoot us an email—we promise we’ll answer.
Should you need any assistance during the break, here’s how to reach us:
- Registration: SpangdahlemHS.Registrar@dodea.edu
- Attendance Reporting: SpangdahlemHSAttendance@dodea.edu

Dear Juniors,
As your high school counselor, I want to share some key steps to ensure a successful senior year. Junior year is crucial for planning and preparation, and your efforts now will pay off later.
1. Focus on Academics: Your grades this year are vital for college applications. Stay on top of your coursework, seek help if needed, and challenge yourself with advanced classes.
2. Explore Career Interests: Use the Schoolinks site, which all our students have access to, for exploring various career options.
3. Prepare for Standardized Tests: Start preparing for the SAT or ACT. Take practice tests, enroll in prep courses, and aim to complete these tests by the end of junior year.
4. Research Colleges: Begin researching colleges that align with your goals. Use the Schoolinks site to explore colleges and career options. Attend college fairs, visit campuses, and talk to admissions representatives.
5. Get Involved: Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, or sports. Leadership roles and community service can enhance your college applications.
6. Build Relationships: Develop strong relationships with teachers, coaches, and mentors for valuable recommendations and support.
7. Plan Your Senior Year: Think about the courses you want to take. Aim for a balanced schedule that allows time for college applications and personal growth.
Preparation and balance are key. Take these steps now, and you'll be well on your way to achieving your goals. If you need guidance, I'm here to support you.
Best regards,
Mr. Posadas

April is fast approaching. With it, we honor Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month. As you know, prevention takes us all! For the month of April, we would like to plant pinwheels across Spangdahlem to raise awareness and show solidarity on this important issue.
If you would like some pinwheels to plant around your office or in your work center, please contact the Integrated Resilience Office at 52fw.iro.office@us.af.mil. We will supply you with the pinwheels!

Sign Out Procedures: To ensure student safety, school staff must always account for students’ whereabouts. Parents and guardians are required to visit the front office and present a photo ID when signing out a student during the school day. This policy helps ensure that only authorized individuals pick up students. The only exception applies to students 18 or older, who MUST present prior written permission from a parent/guardian to sign themselves out for excused absences—this must be done each time an absence occurs.
Phone call dismissals will not be accepted for any student under any circumstances.
Additionally, if someone not listed in our student information system’s "release" list needs to pick up your child, prior authorization is required in writing. Please understand that this policy is in place for student safety and is not intended to cause inconvenience.
STUDENT TARDIES: In the absence of a very important role (registrar/attendance clerk) at our school, we are asking that you review your student’s absence record and ensure accuracy. We also ask that as you review, speak to your student(s) about the importance of arriving to class on time. A LARGE number of students are remaining in the commons, even after tardy warnings are given by me and other staff. Your support in reinforcing this expectation is greatly appreciated.

SENTINELS R.I.S.E.: We are proud to launch the R.I.S.E. Model at SpHS, a program that recognizes students (and student groups) who exemplify Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Effort.

SCHOOL GOALS: We continue to focus on three key goals in our School Action Plan: strengthening math and literacy skills while fostering social-emotional growth. These goals are designed to support every student’s academic success and well-being.
ASPEN NOTIFICATIONS: Our Student Information System, ASPEN, allows you to receive notifications about grade updates and student absences. To take advantage of this feature, please login to ASPEN Portal (https://dodeasis.myfollett.com/aspen/logon.do) to do this. Should you need support doing this, please contact our Educational Technologist.
CELL PHONES: Cell phones, headphones, and AirPods are not permitted in the classroom unless authorized by the teacher. Please respect the privacy of others and refrain from using cell phones in restrooms to take pictures/videos or to capture images of others without permission. Students may use cell phones, headphones, and earbuds during lunch & free time; however, one ear must remain free at all times. Please ensure you view the updated policy.
PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION (PDA): While we encourage positive and respectful relationships, PDA is not appropriate in a school setting and does not align with the expectations for behavior on our campus. Please take a moment to discuss this with your student, as continued violations may result in consequences.
As we seek to better our school. This SPHS Customer Satisfaction Questionnaire will always be available on the newsletter to give your feedback.
