At SpHS, we believe integrity is more than just doing the right thing—it’s taking responsibility for our actions, showing dedication to excellence, and serving others with honesty and heart. This month, we are proud to recognize our Culinary Arts II students for demonstrating Integrity as part of our R.I.S.E. core values.
Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, and staying true to your values
These students went above and beyond by arriving early to prepare breakfast and lunch for a recent DV visit. They took full responsibility for their work, ensuring each meal was served with care and excellence. Without expectation of recognition, they dedicated themselves to serving others—a true testament to their strong moral character.
Their actions embody what it means to be a Sentinel, and we are incredibly proud of their leadership and integrity.
Great job, Culinary Arts II! Keep rising to excellence!

Happy First Week Back Sentinel Nation,
April is a month full of celebration and appreciation—and we’re just getting started! As we continue honoring Month of the Military Child, next week’s theme is Famous Military Children. We’re excited to highlight and explore the stories of influential individuals who grew up in military families. As part of this celebration, Mr. Graham’s Video Production class will be interviewing our very own Sentinel military-connected students during morning announcements to share their experiences as military children. Tune in each day for heartfelt and inspiring conversations!
Also kicking off next week is our Spirit Week, and we’re starting strong with Day 1: Home of Record Day on Monday, April 14th. Show your pride by wearing something that represents where you’re from or where you’ve been.
A Month of Appreciation: This week, we wrapped up Assistant Principal Appreciation Week. A huge thank-you to Mr. Cassel for all he does for our school—you truly make a difference in the lives of our students and staff.
And while we were on spring break, we didn’t forget to celebrate Librarian Appreciation Day on April 4th. We are so grateful for Ms. Cripe and her endless support and dedication to our school community. You help make learning magical!
Warm Weather—DRESS CODE—Reminder: As the temperatures rise, please remember to follow our school dress code. Make sure clothing is appropriate for the learning environment—this includes tops with adequate coverage, appropriate length for shorts and skirts, and appropriate logos and graphics on clothing. We want everyone to be comfortable and focused on learning!
Looking Ahead: Report Cards for Quarter 3 will be available starting today, April 11th. Let’s keep the momentum going and finish the year strong! Students, remember to check your grades regularly and talk with your teachers early. Your teachers are here to support you—academically, emotionally, and socially. Let’s stay proactive!
Prom is just around the corner—April 17th! We can’t wait to see all the glitz and glamour.
No School on Friday, April 18th due to our Professional Learning Day.
Weekend Sports Update: Good luck to our Sentinel athletes this weekend!
• Baseball and Softball are heading to Vicenza
• Men’s and Women’s Soccer will play in Ansbach
• Track & Field is competing in Vilseck
We know you’ll represent us well. And remember, “We are better than the worst call!”. Let us show good sportsmanship and Sentinel pride wherever we go.
That’s all for this week! Rest up, get ready for Spirit Week, and let’s make next week another one to remember.
See you Monday, April 14th for Home of Record Day! It is a BLACK (B) Day—Blocks 5, 6, 7, and Seminar.
30/60/90 Calendar: Please review the updated 30/60/90 day calendar. Please check it out HERE.
As always, thank you for trusting us with your kiddos! We do not take it lightly.

Dear Students and Parents,
As we enter the final quarter of the school year, it's crucial to stay focused and make the most of the time we have left. Here are some tips to help students finish the year strong and achieve their academic goals.
For Students:
- Stay Organized: Track all assignments, projects, and upcoming tests. Use a planner or digital calendar to manage your time effectively and avoid last-minute stress.
- Set Clear Goals: Identify what you want to achieve in each subject and create a plan to reach those goals. Break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
- Utilize Resources: Take advantage of school resources such as Homework Club, seminar class, and teachers. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it.
- Maintain Good Study Habits: Continue reviewing your notes regularly, completing homework on time, and preparing for exams in advance. Consistency is key to academic success.
For Parents:
- Support Your Child's Efforts: Encourage your child to stay focused and provide a quiet, organized study space. Offer positive reinforcement and understanding during this busy time.
- Stay Involved: Keep in touch with teachers and stay informed about your child's progress. Attend school meetings and events to stay engaged with their academic journey.
- Encourage Balance: While academics are important, remind your child to take breaks and engage in activities they enjoy. A balanced approach can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
Together, we can ensure a strong finish to the school year. Let's stay focused, motivated, and supportive of one another as we work towards our goals.

SpHS Students in Action

SENTINELS R.I.S.E.: We are proud to launch the R.I.S.E. Model at SpHS, a program that recognizes students (and student groups) who exemplify Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Effort.

SCHOOL GOALS: We continue to focus on three key goals in our School Action Plan: strengthening math and literacy skills while fostering social-emotional growth. These goals are designed to support every student’s academic success and well-being.
ASPEN NOTIFICATIONS: Our Student Information System, ASPEN, allows you to receive notifications about grade updates and student absences. To take advantage of this feature, please login to ASPEN Portal (https://dodeasis.myfollett.com/aspen/logon.do) to do this. Should you need support doing this, please contact our Educational Technologist.
CELL PHONES: Cell phones, headphones, and AirPods are not permitted in the classroom unless authorized by the teacher. Please respect the privacy of others and refrain from using cell phones in restrooms to take pictures/videos or to capture images of others without permission. Students may use cell phones, headphones, and earbuds during lunch & free time; however, one ear must remain free at all times. Please ensure you view the updated policy.
PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION (PDA): While we encourage positive and respectful relationships, PDA is not appropriate in a school setting and does not align with the expectations for behavior on our campus. Please take a moment to discuss this with your student, as continued violations may result in consequences.
As we seek to better our school. This SPHS Customer Satisfaction Questionnaire will always be available on the newsletter to give your feedback.
Sign Out Procedures: To ensure student safety, school staff must always account for students’ whereabouts. Parents and guardians are required to visit the front office and present a photo ID when signing out a student during the school day. This policy helps ensure that only authorized individuals pick up students. The only exception applies to students 18 or older, who MUST present prior written permission from a parent/guardian to sign themselves out for excused absences—this must be done each time an absence occurs. Phone call dismissals will not be accepted for any student under any circumstances.
Additionally, if someone not listed in our student information system’s "release" list needs to pick up your child, prior authorization is required in writing. Please understand that this policy is in place for student safety and is not intended to cause inconvenience.
STUDENT TARDIES: In the absence of a very important role (registrar/attendance clerk) at our school, we are asking that you review your student’s absence record and ensure accuracy. We also ask that as you review, speak to your student(s) about the importance of arriving to class on time. A LARGE number of students are remaining in the commons, even after tardy warnings are given by me and other staff. Your support in reinforcing this expectation is greatly appreciated.
